Shema Yisrael, Adonai Eloheinu

Adonai Echad

exerpt from SHEMA YISRAEL

from the album: Sacred Songs of Torah and Psalms

The Shema is the first prayer we are supposed to teach a child and the last words on our lips as we pass on.

A powerful prayer. A powerful six words. In Jewish Meditation, Aryeh Kaplan goes into great detail on these six words. (Buy the book :-)  Essentially we telling that part of ourselves that wants to cleave to God, that this infinite, unfathomable entilty, which allows us to call it “Our God” is one. The numerology (Gematria) of the word “one” (Echad) in Hebrew is the same as for the word “love” (Ahava). Within that is a meditation that can last a lifetime.

My composition is based on the fact that we know say this prayer while having the land of Israel back after almost two thousand years. My melody for shema is a call of joy and empowerment...... Ken
