Shabbas Table - The Story of Shabbat
There is a midrash that states that two angels follow each person home from synagogue. If when they enter they see that the bed is made, the table is set and the candles are lit, the good angel gets to say “may if be so every Shabbas” and the other angel has to say “Amen”, but if the bed is not made, the table not set or the candles are not lit, the not-good angel gets to say “may is be so every Shabbas” and the good angel has to say “Amen”.
Well, the two angels follow a family home who cannot seem to stop arguing. The bed is made, the table is set and the candles are lit, so the good angel starts to say the blessing. The no-so-good angel argues that although the family has technically met their obligations, this is no Shabbas table (because of the bickering).
The two angels set out to see which families deserve the blessing and pick three families to test. The winning angel gets to keep the remote (that freeze frames people) for the next thousand years.
This is a heart warming show that brings the magic of Shabbas (or Shabbat) home to everyone who hears or sees the show.
All the songs are in English with the exception of Shalom Aleichem, Psalm 150 and a couple of words here and there.... and don’t forget the herring!
